Accommodation and Donation: Charity Travel Fundraising

Thinking about a holiday to escape the noisy office or bustling commute? Or perhaps just to go somewhere new to relax for a few days and go sightseeing? Now you can take a trip not only to reward yourself, but also help a good cause at the same time!

That’s travel fundraising. Australia’s tourism generates around $100 million a day from domestic and foreign travel alone. Travel fundraising allows a portion of that to be donated to charities and organisations, helping them to make a difference in their respective fields with little to no extra effort from the people making the donation.

Fortunately, there’s a lot of travelling going on – it’s only a question of where to go and which organisation to support at the same time. Australia offers a wide variety of destinations and accommodations to suit any traveller, and the biggest challenge can often be choosing just one!

Luckily, we have a few suggestions for your next holiday destination.

Sunshine Coast, Queensland

A little over an hour from Brisbane and sporting one of the best climates that Australia has to offer, Sunshine Coast is one of the most diverse places that anyone can go for an Australian vacation. Popular tourist spots such as Noosa Beach make sure that you’ll never have difficulty with hotel accommodation, and several wildlife sanctuaries, horse ranches and surfing beaches will delight both the loud and the quiet traveller alike.

For a more stylish and laid-back environment, Cairns is the place to go. With multiple beach resorts in Port Douglas, and serving as a departure point to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is the city where you can disappear by yourself for a couple of days to recharge and relax – and then return well-rested and refreshed.

Tweed Heads

Right on the edge of Gold Coast, Tweed Heads is the perfect place to retire after frolicking on the the beaches of Gold Coast. It’s a city designed for those who want to relax after a long day out sightseeing (perhaps at the nearby Mount Warning) and enjoy the quiet atmosphere that this city provides.

These are some of Australia’s most sought-after holiday destinations, but what’s even better is that there are plenty of charities you can help by booking your accommodation with OZbreaks. When you book a holiday with us, a portion of the funds will be donated to a charity or organisation of your choice. Here’s just a few of the many charities available to support through OZbreaks.

Ronald McDonald House

Established back in 1974, Ronald McDonald House was established by American footballer Fred Hill after experiencing the poor sleeping conditions for parents who needed to watch over their kids in the hospital. The first Australian Ronald McDonald House was built in 1981 and now has 15 houses all over Australia.

They’ve helped over 68,000 families with more than 1 million bednights, as well as giving their sick kids a chance to catch up on lost school time and gifting them holidays. In addition to their fundraising and charity balls, every cent given by donors will go directly to helping the lives of sick children and their families.

Starlight Children’s Foundation

Created to improve hospital conditions for sick children, the Starlight Children’s Foundation programs are also focused on improving the social and mental health of the children that they help. Kids deal with pain differently from adults, and the Starlight Foundation helps to brighten their lives for a smoother recovery.

Their programs include Captain Starlights – volunteers who bring play and laughter to the children, as well as Starlight Wish lists – a platform that helps hospitals find the specialised items they need to treat children.

Lion’s Club Australia

One of the most active disaster response organisations in Australia, Lions Australia has over 1200 centres spread across Australia and Papua New Guinea. It’s an organisation that believes that the community is a strong building block in the lives of everyone, and it has helped thousands across the country with disaster response and communal projects.
